This page contains some of the more common Kanji that will be needed to get you going. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of all the 常用漢字 (じょうよう/jouyou), or “common use” Kanji. This is simply a place to begin learning some of the “highest frequency” Kanji. The Kanji in this list will get you about 90% of the way there in terms of being able to read Japanese as a beginner.

Please note that this list is under construction and will be updated over time. I’ll begin with (some) of the Kanji I have learned. The Kanji here are organized by the number of strokes needed to make them.
